Cotopaxi National Park & Quilotoa Lagoon

[:en]Day 1: Quito – Cotopaxi National Park – Lasso

We will depart south from Quito headed to the Cotopaxi National Park.  The Cotopaxi (5,897 m) is the highest active volcano in the world, located in the middle of the moorlands which is home to numerous birds species and varied flora.  The natural location is great for adventures of various skills, there is the opportunity for a light hike around the park or to climb to the summit.

The surrounding landscapes are also beautiful.  In the northeast lies the Rumiñahui mountain (4,557 m ) and between the two mountains the plain and lagoon of Limpiopungo and to view the surrounding mountains Pasochoa, and Sincholagua.

We will spend the night in Lasso.

Day 2: Lasso – Tigua – Zumbahua – Quilotoa – Quito
Departing south and onto the high Andes, we will reach and pass by the village of Tigua, featuring the famous naïve paintings made on sheepskin and wooden – animal- masks worn during local festivities. We travel to the village of Zumbahua, an indigenous community famous for their handicrafts and multicolored ponchos; a unique cross-cultural experience amidst the marvelous patchwork setting of the Andes. Arriving at the Quilotoa Crater and lake to admire the turquoise waters surrounded by ancient legends and a trekking excursion.

Partiremos hacia el sur desde Quito en dirección al Parque Nacional Cotopaxi. El Cotopaxi (5,897 m) es el volcán activo más alto del mundo, ubicado en medio de los páramos, que alberga numerosas especies de aves y flora variada. La ubicación natural es ideal para aventuras de diversas habilidades, existe la oportunidad de una caminata ligera alrededor del parque o para subir a la cima.

Los paisajes circundantes también son hermosos. En el noreste se encuentra la montaña Rumiñahui (4.557 m) y entre las dos montañas la llanura y la laguna de Limpiopungo y para ver las montañas circundantes Pasochoa y Sincholagua.

Día 2: Lasso – Tigua – Zumbahua – Quilotoa – Quito

Partiendo hacia el sur y hacia los Andes altos, alcanzaremos y pasaremos por el pueblo de Tigua, que presenta las famosas pinturas nativas hechas en piel de oveja y madera – máscaras de animales usadas durante las festividades locales. Viajamos a la aldea de Zumbahua, una comunidad indígena famosa por sus artesanías y ponchos multicolores; una experiencia intercultural única en medio del maravilloso entorno de mosaicos de los Andes. Al llegar al cráter de Quilotoa y el lago para admirar las aguas turquesas rodeadas de antiguas leyendas y una excursión.
